R.L. Price is Salem, Virginia’s largest commercial general contracting firm. Since its inception in 1990, R.L. Price Construction has grown steadily in size and project scope. Price Construction has an office staff of 11 people, 11 field superintendents and approximately 20 employees in the field. We have a single project bonding capacity of $15 million and an aggregate capacity of $20 million. R.L. Price Construction utilizes the latest technology for estimating, projects scheduling, and cost accounting.

President and Estimator Robert L. Price III’s career began at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he majored in building construction. Known to his team as Bob, he’s since gained more than thirty years of experience in the industry. Bob has been with R.L. Price since 1990, when he took on the role of vice president. He would later become the president of the company. Prior to his work with R.L. Price, Bob served for several years as the vice president of Creative Construction and Development Corporation. In addition to heading up a talented team of project managers, superintendents, and office staff, Bob is very involved in his community. He’s a volunteer firefighter for Masons Cove Company 10 and a head football coach at Roanoke Catholic School. Bob also enjoys spending time with his wife, Linda, and three sons: Seth, Aaron, and Ben.
Vice President and Project Manager S. Jay Cecil has three-decades of experience in the industry. His career launched in 1979 when he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in building construction. Before joining R.L. Price in 1999, Jay owned Cecil Building and Consulting. He also gained a strong understanding of the financial side of construction during his 16-year tenure as the ACA Branch Manager at Roanoke Farm Credit. Jay’s other profession is being a proud grandfather of five. He loves spending time at the beach with his family, especially when he has a chance to scuba dive.
Vice President and Project Manager Kevin King has spent nearly 20 years managing builds in Southwest Virginia. He first joined R.L. Price as a project manager in 2001 and earned his role as vice president in 2016. Kevin previously worked as a project manager and commercial estimator at Frye Construction. He also served as an assistant project manager with Breakell, Inc. He carries two degrees, one in building construction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the other in business administration from New River Community College. Kevin is a proud husband and father. He shares two sons, Mason and Brady, and a daughter, Eden, with his wife, Chrystal.
Steve Schmitt joined R.L. Price in 2018 after searching for a reputable firm that would allow him to continue growing in his construction project management career. Steve has experience in operating his own business and managing a variety of technical and non-technical projects. He began his journey into construction at the University of Illinois where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. From there, Steve worked his way up in the industry to become president at SJS Builders, Inc. in Roanoke and later served as the senior technical project manager at GE in Salem. Steve is a past president and executive board member of the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association. He also holds two US and European Union patents and the Edison Engineering award. Naturally, Steve enjoys woodworking and doing home improvement projects in his free time. He also loves golfing, fishing, and traveling.
